The trailer of ‘Alif’ is beyond what the reader expected

Author: Muhammad Ali

The first look of Geo TV’s upcoming serial ‘Alif’ is out. Based on the latest novel by Umera Ahmad, the adaptation has been directed by Haseeb Hassan and produced by Samina Humayun, SH. Amjad Rasheed, Sana Shahnawaz and Ateeq Siyal.

The ones who have read the novel know that the story, having the tincture of spiritualism equal to that of romance and social issues in it, is set in the land of dervishes, Turkey.

The trailer of ‘Alif’ does not fail at any point to come up to the expectations of the readers. In fact, it even goes beyond what they had anticipated when it dazzlingly opens with Sema, a traditional Sufi dance being performed by actor and philanthropist Ahsan Khan along with the other aspirants of divine love. Humayun Saeed’s smoky voice runs in the background, narrating the aspects of the story that are to arouse the viewers’ curiosity and mould their mindsets with the development of the story.

Manzar Sehbai, Sajal Aly, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Kubra Khan, Osman Khalid Butt and Salim Mairajare are introduced with the names of the characters they will be performing.

The trailer of “Alif”, after years of monotony in Pakistani serials, comes up as a promising deviation in various forms. The dervish dance in the start reveals in the very first glimpse that we are to expect Sufism as exists in the mystics’ own land; in its original and unblemished form. Later on, the bright and clean look of the serial, coming partly from the high-quality camera work and partly from the breath-taking locations of Turkey continues to please the eyes.

It must be admitted that despite all the controversies that continue to surround him, Hamza Ali Abbasi manages to attract the viewers towards himself with the sexy look that he has donned in “Alif”. Kubra Khan, exactly like the character from the novel, looks no less than a glamorous actress who has reigned the industry for an ineluctable period of time, presenting herself as an apt choice for the role. Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt and Saleem Mairaj have lately proved themselves as two of the most versatile actors of Pakistan. On the other hand, Manzar Sehbai and Sajal Aly are performers par excellence from whom always something out of the world is expected. It is also said that Sadaf Kanwal, the top model, Yashma Gill, the new sensation and Rashid Farooqi, the veteran actor from artistic projects will also be sprinkling their talents on the magnificent treat that we have got coming in the form of “Alif”.

Haseeb Hassan and the producers are to be admired for doing justice to the novel and giving the right to everything, from the characters to the locations, to be depicted in its most exquisite form.

It’s after a long time that writer Umera Ahmad is making her comeback on Geo TV and that she is doing with a bang. Umera Ahmad’s previous projects for Geo TV include ‘Doraha’, ‘Uraan’, ‘Miraatul Uroos’, ‘Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan’ and ‘Ghar Aur Ghatta’.
