Local school collecting money from students for repair work

The teaching staff of the Government Girl’s High Secondary School has been collecting money from their students for repair work in the educational institution.

The principal of the institution had assigned duties to every class teacher to collect Rs 20 to Rs 30 per student, said a student of Grade 5 on the condition of anonymity.

Our teachers jointly assembled Rs 30,000 from the students and the security guards of the school were given the duty of whitewashing and repairing works.

They had been asked by their teachers to clean their classes themselves daily and to bring clean water with them, as the school could use it, said another student.

Instead of facilitating and motivating female students to enhance the female education ratio in the merged Khyber district, the staff members of the school were teasing the students one way or the other, to leave the school, said the parents of the students while expressing their annoyance over the issue.

Besides social restrictions, he encouraged his daughters to go to school and get an education, but ironically the teaching staff indulged them in sweeping the class rooms and verandas, said Sajid Khan, a local father of three girls. The long claims that had been made by the incumbent government to give top priority to education, were proved wrong by this malpractice of the school administration, he added.

It was part of social work and keeping in view the dilapidated condition of the school, the students and the teachers contributed among themselves and conducted renovation work of the institution, said District Education Officer Jadoon Wazir when he was contacted about the matter.
