KARACHI: The ‘unexpected’ results of the US presidential elections have rattled the world as global markets slashed to record low.

Although, president-elect Donald Trump has vowed to work with the rest of the world and sought common grounds for the reason but his controversial statements and lack of political experience have left many in a state of confusion over his future strategies. Most of Pakistan’s political leaders took Trump’s ‘unpredicted’ victory over Hillary Clinton as a surprise and many of them termed the newly-elected president as an angry, annoyed and less experienced politician.

They were of the view that no change would take place while the Pak-American ties would remain as usual. In his message, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Trump’s election is a triumph of the American people and their enduring faith in the ideals of democracy, freedom, human rights, and free enterprise. “Most importantly, your momentous success is a testimony to the confidence that the American people have reposed in your leadership,” he said in a greeting sent to Trump.

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto seemed to be disappointed over the results. While analysing the US presidential poll, he said that gender discrimination was still alive in the US. He also criticised Trump in ‘sugar coated’ words and compared the new US leader with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, saying that “Trump has been elected US president, now let us see when a sit-in beings in the US.”

Opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said that Trump’s victory was the sign of a change. He asserted that the world would undergo a change following Trump’s election. A change in Pakistan’s foreign policy towards the United States was also inevitable and need of the hour, he said.

Talking to Daily Times, Jamait-i-Islami’s Sindh leader Mirajul Huda Siddiqui was of the view that racialism has been initiated following Trump’s success and he would never bring any change to Pakistan. He said that things like Democrats or Republicans do not influence the US strategies, as policies were made there with the collaboration of all administrative and security institutions.

Shah Anas Noorani of the Jamiat-I-Ulmai Pakistan said that America has plunged into extremism that’s why the American people have chosen Trump who had said that India would be its behind if he would be the president. Therefore, Pakistan should reconsider the policies and ties with the US as there can never be stable Pak-US ties with Trump in the presidency, he said.

Aminul Haq of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement said that his party respects the mandate of the people and hopes that Trump would bring peace and prosperity to the world. He said that Donald Trump as the US president should resolve the long standing issue of Jammu Kashmir.
