Members of the Hindu community took out a large rally from Dharamshalla on Wednesday, which culminated after marching up to local press club. They were also joined by members of civil society and activists of various political and non-political organizations including PTI, District Bar Association demanding justice for Dr Nimirta Kumari whose body was recovered from her hostel room in mysterious conditions. They shouted slogans against Vice Chancellor (VC), Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), whom they accused of making the whole issue controversial by declaring that Nimirta committed suicide. Dr. Dharampal, Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Ikram Tunio, Dr. Dayali Gul, Allah Bux Unar, advocate Athar Abbas Solangi and others participated in large numbers.

They rejected postmortem report and said that they are with the people of Hindu community and with the heirs of the deceased. They demanded constitution of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which must also include people from army and judiciary. They said after their report role of the SMBBMU VC will be clear. They said great injustice has been done with Dr Nimirta which will soon be exposed. They said that had she committed suicide then her body would have been found loafing with the ceiling fan but her body was lying on her bed. They alleged that college authorities are lying & hiding the facts which soon will come out. Her colleagues also took out a rally from BADC and held protest demo demanding thorough probe and justice for Dr. Nimirta .

Meanwhile, Home Department, Sindh Government has requested District & Sessions Judge, Larkana, to conduct judicial “enquiry” into the matter of Dr. Nimirta Kumari & furnish report within 30 days. A letter signed by Aijaz Ali Bhatti, Section Officer (Judicial-III), Home Department, further directed the deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police to extend all possible cooperation in conduct of the “enquiry”. Copies of this letter have also been sent to SHC Registrar, PSs to Governor & Chief Minister, commissioner Larkana and others.

Meanwhile, police have arrested two suspected students Mehran Abro and Ali Shan but no FIR was so far registered.

On the other hand, senior medico-legal officers have also rejected the autopsy report issued by the police surgeon, Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH). While talking to scribe on Wednesday they said requesting anonymity that chemical report has nothing to do with suicide case. They said after burning of the body, as per Hindu community tradition, it cannot be exhumed for further forensic examination. They said viscera will not determine whether she had committed suicide or not. They said that lady MLO and police surgeon are completely incompetent and have no expertise and previous experience. They further alleged that BPS-19 scale doctor has been posted on post of BPS-20 as police surgeon which itself is grave injustice and sheer negligence.

Police sources further said that Nimirta was using iPhone and she used her thumb impression to open her phone which was not obtained by cops. Now they are taking it to the company to get it opened so that forensic investigation could be made.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government on Wednesday requested the sessions court of Larkana to hold a judicial probe into the death of Nimrita Chandani, a BDS final year student at Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC) who was found dead in her hostel room in Larkana earlier this week.

Section Officer Aijaz Ali Bhatti wrote a letter to the district and sessions judge of Larkana, requesting that a judicial inquiry be held in the matter and submit a report to the home department within 30 days so that further action can be taken.

The letter directed Larkana’s deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police (SSP) to “extend all possible cooperation in the [conducting] of judicial inquiry”.
