Mother of convicted smuggler in Indonesia appeals for help

PESHAWAR: The mother and relatives of one Faiq Akhtar appealed to Pakistan’s Ambassador in Indonesia to play his vital role in getting rid of the death sentence awarded by an Indonesian court to Faiq in a smuggling case.

The mother and other family members of the detained Faiq, on Thursday gathered at Sher Shah Suri Road outside the Peshawar Press Club and recorded their protest aimed at seeking justice with Faiq. They had the pictures of the imprisoned in their hands while his female relatives with covered faces also asking release of the detained.

Talking to this scribed Bilal, brother of the victim Faiq, 35, said that on January 27, 2016 in the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) raided a warehouse in Jepara Central Java in Indonesia and arrested eight people for allegedly smuggling of narcotics.

“Among the arrested persons four were Pakistani citizens. During the raid the National Narcotic Agency recovered electric generators from the warehouse which allegedly contained narcotics in the form ice-weighing of 95 kg”, he briefed.

The Indonesian concerned authorities, he said investigated in the case and after completion of the probe process the case put forward to trail in a court. He added that the court had awarded sentence death to Faiq while awarded 5-8 years life sentence to the Indonesian citizens which he said is an indiscrimination with Pakistani citizens. “The warehouse did not belong to any of the Pakistani but was the ownership of Indonesian citizens namely Ugang and Didit which was rented from the owner and was running a furniture business therein”, he said clearly.

“Faiq Akhtar has a paralyzed brother and a sick father and a mother, looking towards the help of Pakistani Ambassador in Indonesia to play great role to change the death sentence of Faiq into a few years sentence as awarded to other Indonesians in the same case”, he appealed.

People protest against poor performance of WSSP: Residents and district Peshawar members on Thursday held a protest demonstration against the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) officer for allegedly poor performance in their respective areas. They threatened that they would lock the WSSP office if their issues were not solved within a week.

Holding placards inscribed with different slogans against the WSSP personal, the protesters gathered at Sher Shah Suri Road opposite Cantonment Railway Station.

Rahman Afzal, a district member who leading the demonstrators while talking to reporters said that due to the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar poor performance all the Peshawar city had changed into filth. He said the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar officers received their salaries in millions but their performances were zero and did not pay heed towards the cleanliness. He demanded of Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to remove the irresponsible officers of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar forthwith.

Students raise slogans against Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: The office bearers of Muslim Students Federation-Nawaz (MSF-N) of Government College Peshawar staged a protest demonstration against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra for not solving their problems even after giving them time for meeting.

The annoyed students raised slogans “Go governor go” at Sher Shah Suri outside Peshawar Press Club. They were carrying placards inscribed with anti-governor slogans. Khan Zaman Afridi, senior vice president, MSF-N district Peshawar led the protesters and on the occasion he threatened that their demonstration would be continued until the Governor step down because the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor least bothered to solve the MSF-N issues and meet with them.

He demanded of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Shareif to remove the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor otherwise they would stage protest sit-in outside the Governor House Peshawar and would also extend their protest demonstration to all part of the province.

Meanwhile a group of the MSF-N also from Government College Peshawar held a protest demonstration in favour of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor and appreciated the steps taking by the Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra in the province.

They also gathered at Amn Park at Sher Shah Suri road and chanted slogans in favour of Nawaz Sharif.
