KARACHI: The fresh statement of Pakistan Muslim League-N Senator Nihal Hashmi about former Sindh governor Ishratul Ebad has irked politicians.
Hashmi had said that the last traces of terror had been removed after Ebad was removed from the post. Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s leader Imran Ismail said that the PML-N lawmaker has discovered his party’s faults. “If Ebad was a terrorist, how he was allowed to continue his services,” he questioned.
Jamaat-i-Islami leader Mirajul Huda Siddiqui said that it has become a trend now that when anyone leaves the regime, criticism starts. He further said that if Ebad was a suspect so then on what legal grounds the central government has worked with him for more than three years.
Criticising Hashmi’s views, Muttahida Qaumi Movement spokesperson Aminul Haq condemned his statement, and said that the statement was completely irresponsible, unethical, and non-democratic. He said that Karachi operation was started on the recommendations of the outgoing governor, and the decision was taken after a high-level meeting held in the Governor’s House in which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Senator Ishaq Dar, Ishratul Ebad and Nihal Hashmi was also present.
Member of Sindh Assembly (MPA) Nusrat Sahar Abbasi of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional said that Hashmi’s media talk has raised questions about federal government’s credibility. She questioned that why did Hashmi not level allegations on the outgoing governor when he was in power.
