Media, civil society asked to encourage women participation in polls

PESHAWAR: Caretaker Chief Election Commissioner Justice Retd Irshad Qaiser has said that political parties, civil society members and media should play their role to motivate women and special person in the process of election that they can cast their vote during election.

She said in her consultative meeting with Civil Society members and Election Commission Officers.

In the meeting additional secretary election commission of Pakistan Zafar Iqbal, provincial election commissioner Mussarat Khan Afridi, additional director general Nighat Sadeeq, Join provincial election commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ahmad Nawaz, director local government Pir Maqbool Ahmad and other official of election commission and civil society members were participated.

Irshad Qaiser said that for the vote importance the election commission of Pakistan will observe 7th December as National Voters Day to create awareness of the importance of vote among the people.

She added that in Pakistan around 55 % of population exists on women but there participation in election and the use of vote are very less, adding that special person is also part of the society and their participation is also very less in election to cast their vote.

Irshad Qaiser said that women and special persons were also part of the society and our religion also teach us to provide them equal opportunities, adding that ECP will provide all possible facilities to the women and special person during election.

She inform that on one day in the entire country general election were conducted by ECP which is impossible but with the tireless effort ECP make it possible, adding that common people and civil society members should also come forward and help the ECP to improve further our system of election.

She added that ECP will well come and appreciate the suggestion of civil society members to further improve the election system in Pakistan, adding that ECP will work harder to conduct the next general election of 2018 with transparent manner in the country.
