Heavy rain lashes parts of country: MET

ISLAMABAD: QUETTA, Heavy downpour with gusty winds was reported in different parts of the country including Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted a heavy downpour in different parts of the country in the next 48 hours.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the provincial government and National Disaster Management Authority should immediately take safety and prevention steps for the monsoon downpour.

He stressed that evacuation of locals must be ensured to prevent any unfortunate incidents. A seasonal low lies over North Balochistan and its adjoining areas and a westerly wave continues to affect upper parts of the country. Monsoon currents are penetrating in upper and central parts of the country, the MET said.

Rain and thundershowers with strong gusty winds are expected at a number of places in upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lower Sindh (Hyderabad, Karachi, Mirpur Khas, Sh. Benazirabad divisions), Islamabad, FATA and Kashmir, while at scattered places in South Punjab (Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan divisions), upper Sindh (Larkana, Sukkur divisions), eastern Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat divisions) and Gilgit-Baltistan in the next 24 hours.

Rain and dust-thundershowers with gusty winds occurred at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, D.G Khan, Malakand, Hazara, D.I. Khan, Quetta divisions, Islamabad, while at isolated places in Kohat, Bahawalpur, Hyderabad divisions, and Kashmir.
