Something’s missing in our education system

Author: Amna Mansoor

Career is something very important in a person’s life. It won’t be wrong if I say that career is the only most important thing in a person’s life.

From starting your practical life to enjoying the years after retirement. It all depends on your career. It’s not you’ve to leave everything i.e. family, love, relationship and your personality. It’s just that career comes above all. I’ve seen different people who’re that much intelligent and hardworking but are smart enough to choose their career, they exactly know what they want in their lives. They’re not under any pressure and sometimes their right choice of choosing their life path makes them and their lives much much better than those who’ve been working and struggling hard not only with their professional lives but also their mental peace.

Not Everyone Is Smart

Let’s take an example of one of my relative who’s a very successful person. He’s not only satisfied with his personal but also his working life. He’s nearly achieved everything in his life. He’s not studied in school. He’s not a degree holder from a reputed university. He’s nothing but a smart man who knew what he wanted. He’s a businessman. He’s been working harder and harder and despite the fact that he’s crossed his 50’s he’s still working hard but can see a bright life after retirement. Perhaps he’s never going to retire because your passion and your dedication have no expiry date. But not everyone is smart. On the contrary I’ve seen a person who’s qualified, has got a good degree from a reputed university but he wasn’t smart or maybe he’s been a victim of one of the major problems in our education system which is career counselling.

Career Counselling

Yes! I’m extremely sorry to say this but I’ve also been a victim of this. And this is not something less important. This has affected so many people and their lives. Just because they’re not smart or probably they’d no one to guide them, they’re still surviving and are going to survive till the end. Let me tell you one thing you won’t be able to live your life happily and give your best until you love what you do. The society taboo is the best degree is the one which has a scope. No matter if you love media but are doing medical because it’s more scope, you’ll end up being a failure. I’m not asking you to disobey your parents while following your dreams but yes! you’ve to manage your dreams and your loved ones.

Misguidance leads to failure

Now the question is that who’s going to teach you this? Who’s going you to tell the exact process? Nobody literally nobody. There might be some parents who’re interested in their child life and give every possible suggestion to their kid but NO! The right person is the one who’s in the market, who’s up to date and his awareness of the current demands. And the rest is up to you. But you’re still not able to decide because you’ve not got the power to decide. Your decision powers are weak. And you’re afraid of choosing the right thing for yourself. Obviously! this is going to happen sooner or later because you’re not prepared to choose. Your school has never taught you what’s your soul demands. It’s within you but you can’t find it because nobody has ever taught you how to?

Name and Fame

The education system has now more focus on grades. They just want name and money. All they do is read your books and make you learn them but they never let you discover yourself. They never let the person in you come out and speak. They never focus on your future rather they try to gain name and fame. The study is important. Good grades are important but they’re important to an extent. What’s more important is the health of your mind, the power of your decision and the talent of your inner self.

Tips to follow

I’ve also become a victim of this and I want my younger friends to never face this difficulty. Here are some tips and tricks that you can do to get yourself prepared for the situations you’ll face in future.

  • Best Degree is the one which you love. It’s not the one which has more scope. If you love programming but are doing business. I pity your decision and can see the failure of your plans in certain cases.
  • Passion comes first. You must be ready to succeed. Take a strong step and never fear yourself.
  • If you’ve taken a step never step back. Believe in yourself. You can do it.
  • Guidance is necessary to a certain level. Don’t let anyone rule your life.
  • Discover yourself and your talent. Listen to your heart and go ahead.

My sincere request to educational institutions is to please arrange something for students. Instead of gathering all the money which is of no use. Try to arrange some career counselling sessions once a week, if not once a week, once a month would be enough. Help them in their admissions. Associate with different universities and help your students in admission processes. Break the culture of throwing your students into trash bins right after they leave your institution. They’ve your name attached with them. Help them in any possible way.
