Musharraf’s return to politics tragic: Raza Rabbani

Author: Staff Report

LAHORE: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has on Tuesday said that the return of former President Pervez Musharraf to national politics was tragic. He said that the parliament should be made strong and functional as a strong parliament would result in supremacy of the constitution. He said that Musharraf violated the constitution, followed the ‘do more’ orders of the Americans and suspended the constitution as well as the judiciary. Rabbani said that a case under Article-6 was already registered against Musharraf, claiming it should be the last day of all politicians in Pakistan when Musharraf returns to politics. All the faults in the system could be corrected through continuation of democracy.

‘Provincial autonomy isn’t being implemented fully despite the 18th amendment. Rolling back of 18th amendment will have very negative repercussions,” he said. The Senate Chairman said that strong verdicts were given by the courts during the PPP era, adding that the democratic process was repeatedly derailed in the country. He concluded by saying that the system could not be corrected unless the process was allowed to continue.
