ISLAMABAD: A committee formed to probe a fire incident at the Gadani Shipyard has submitted its report in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The committee noticed that safety measures for the labourers are absolutely inadequate. The committee suggested identifying responsibilities of the government as well as shippers for safety and security of the labourers.

According to the Defence Production Ministry spokesman, the committee has recommended to form a ship recycling board under the supervision of the Balochistan chief secretary. The board will be responsible to implement the recommendations of the report to avoid such incidents in the future.

The committee has recommended a disciplinary action against negligent officials. The body also recommended to provide a financial compensation for the victims and their families. Nawaz Sharif had formed the committee headed by Defence Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain to probe the incident at Gaddani Shipyard that claimed several lives.
