LAHORE: The University of Management and Technology (UMT) on Wednesday organised its annual ‘Career Fair 2016’ under the theme of ‘Campus to Corporate’.

A large number of fresh graduates and other students thronged to the venue in order to submit their resumes and to kick start their professional careers.

More than 100 corporate organisations, including Approach Resources, Beyt.com, Huawei Technologies, Urban Sole, habib Bank Limited, Stylo, Hardees and Inksters, set up their stalls to provide job opportunities to students. Apart from the employment opportunities, the event featured an exotic food court and educational advancement advisory along with multiple scholarships.

Over 900 recruiters held talks with young and fresh graduates. The students delivered around 5,000 CVs directly to the recruiters and many of them were hired on the spot, according to the UMT spokesperson.

World Trade Organisation Chairman Jamil A Naz and Huawei International Director David Gwolang inaugurated the job fair. UMT Director Ibrahim Hasan Murad and UMT School of Business and Economic Dean Bob Wheeler were also present on the occasion.

UMT, through this fair, provided a platform to its students to build their professional networks with employers and receive an exposure regarding their fields. Expressing their views, some of the students said that the career fair was an exciting opportunity to interact with the companies of their choice. They said that the event had brought them opportunities to learn from the exposure and polish the skills that are requirement for seeking jobs in a competitive environment.

WTO Chairman Jamil A Naz, while addressing the participants, said students should secure their future and set their aim before taking admission in any course. He said that such events are a good initiative by academia’s management for student and they should take benefit from these opportunities by actively participating in career fairs.

David Gwolang on the occasion said that they are always ready to provide their services and help out the students of Pakistan, especially in the technology sector. He said that such event is a great opportunity for both the students as well as companies, as the noth parties become more aware of each other’s preferences, which made the recruitment process more fruitful.

Punjab Higher Education Minister Begum Zakia Shahnawaz also addressed the students, professors and corporate organisations.
