KARACHI: The Sindh High Court rejected a petition of the Pakistan Rangers seeking the cancellation of the bail granted to Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Amir Khan in a case related to harboring of terrorists.

A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh dismissed the petition through a short order. Amir Khan was arrested from Nine Zero on March 11 this year and was subsequently placed under preventive detention by the paramilitary forces for three months and later an official of the Rangers registered a complaint against him at Azizabad police station for allegedly harboring terrorists under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Aggrieved at the ATC ‘s order of granting bail to Amir in the case, Rangers DSR Mohammad Riaz petitioned the high court, submitting that Amir Khan was in charge of the MQM headquarters security and the case against him was registered on the findings of the joint interrogation team.

He said that the MQM leader and others arrested with him from Nine Zero had admitted providing shelter to criminals and convicts, and were using them for unlawful activities in the city.

He argued that the trial court had failed to appreciate the police reports and other relevant evidence provided to it which substantiated the involvement of MQM leader in criminal activities, he said this, while requesting the court to cancel the bail granted to the petitioner.
