The ongoing impulse of accountability is unraveling the worst form of political vendetta whereas a vast majority of political opponents, who were apprehended, hailing to opposition parties, is further making the recent spate of arrests dubious. This sinister campaign is aimed at imprisoning first and investigating later that has forced the people to point their fingers at the judiciary of the country.
The public is gradually losing confidence in the ongoing accountability and is terming it a tool for the government to fabricate cases against its political rivals and push them to the wall. The dramatic arrests, media trial, prolonged incarnation and deliberate indictment have put a question mark on the partial proceedings of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Political opponents are being put behind bars to languish without solid evidence which is apparently tantamount to political victimization. Investigating bodies should swing the swung of investigation under legitimate evidences to bear all the characteristics of the fairness of the process.
Tumult and rumpus, in National Assembly, has become usual particularly in the last year owing to so-called accountability drive and political witch-hunt which has turned the NA into a political arena. Creating commotion to stall the proceedings of nation’s most esteemed legislative body is an emphatic slap to all lawmakers. The spectacle of the treasury benches disrupting session is very astounding and embarrassing.
The sanctity of parliament is frequently getting violated in mud-wrestling-pit. Speaker and deputy speaker seem helpless in winding up scurrilous words and regulating the session smoothly. Opposition and government, both are responsible for the predicament in NA.
Our legislators are more interested in demeaning and lashing out at one another instead of making any serious debate pertaining to various long-standing challenges of the country and paving appropriate paths of tackling them. It is the time of an hour for both opponents to stay consolidated and united in order to address the prevailing economic woes collectively because economic and political stability are correlative.
There is no blinking at the fact that Pakistan has been stalked by bad economic news: a sharp appreciation of the dollar against the rupee; low tax collection; stagnant export; revenue shortfall and flooded inflation. The country is indubitably in an imbroglio and finds barriers to disentangle from this situation.
Most regretfully, both the opposition parties and the government have become a stumbling block on the way of reviving the sinking economy instead of extending cooperation from both poles in these testing times.
The threat of launching mass contact drive by the opposition, I must say, will further slow down economic activities and it is a malicious venture of hindering the path of Pakistan towards eternal progress and advancement.
It is high time for the government and the opposition parties to play their constitutional roles and take remedial measures to redress the grievances of the people. There is a pressing need for mutual understanding between both political rivals in order to set aside their differences and work jointly for the cause of ‘Progressive and Prosperous Pakistan’.
