ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Farhan Mahboob won the $25,000 Serena Hotels-Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) International Squash Championship, defeating countrymen Farhan Zaman 3-1 in the final at Mushaf Squash Complex Islamabad here on Monday. World number 106 Mahboob won the first game 11-9 after a thrilling contest. He won the second 11-6. But he conceded the third 6-11 to world number 52 Zaman, who bounced back, displaying superb technique and stamina. Mahboob took the fourth and final set 11-5 to emerge victorious. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, who is also the President Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), awarded prizes to the winner and the runner-up of the championship. Earlier on Sunday, taking quite a huge step towards regaining the lost glory in the sport, Zaman and compatriot Mahboob overcame their high-ranked opponents in their respective semi-finals. Zaman moved into the final after defeating top seed and world number 30 Leo Au from Hong Kong in a five-game thrilling clash while Mahboob outclassed his Egyptian opponent second seed and world number 41 Mohamed Reda in four games.
