LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, in a ceremony held at Central Police Office on Tuesday, awarded cash prizes and appreciation certificates to the station house officer of Kasur’s Sadar area along with two police officials for arresting a notorious proclaimed offender after rejecting an offer of Rs 2 million bribe.
According to details, SHO Kasur Muhammad Younus, along with other police officials, was on duty at a checkpost on Ferozpur Road when a suspicious car with three passengers inside was stopped and checked. Rs 5 million and one pistol were found on searching the car.
On checking the CNIC number, the suspect was identified as a proclaimed offender in a double murder case in Raiwind area.
The perpetrator, on being exposed, offered Rs 2 million bribe to police officials to let him go but the dedicated police officials not only denied the offer but also called the Raiwind City SHO and handed over the perpetrator, vehicle and recovered amount, setting an example of integrity and uprightness for the force.
The IG awarded cash prize of Rs 0.3 million and an appreciation certificate to Station House Officer Muhammad Younus and Rs 50,000 each and appreciation certificates to Assistant Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Sharif and Muhammad Imran.
Addressing the occasion, the IG said protection of lives, properties and honour of the citizens and to maintain law and order in the province was the primary responsibility of Punjab Police and to fulfill this duty, everyone of us should work with more sincerity, honesty and dedication.
He said by rejecting an offer of heavy bribe, the SHO Kasur and other officials on checkpost duty have proved that Punjab Police was legatee of martyrs. Officials of Punjab Police have always sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to protect honor, lives and properties of the citizens, he added.
The IG said strong-willed and honest officers were pride of Punjab Police, as they would never compromise on their duties and no materialistic offer could attract them.
