KARACHI: The Sindh High Court dismissed the application of former provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Tuesday through which he sought urgent hearing of his petition for removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, who was heading the division bench, dismissed the urgent application, observing that the case has already been fixed for hearing on December 02.

The former information minister, who is living in self-exile in London, had moved to the court seeking removal of his name from the ECL.

Sharjeel’s lawyer submitted that the federal authorities had placed his name on the ECL without any plausible reason. He added despite repeated attempts his client was not being provided the memorandum regarding placement of his name on the ECL.

The counsel informed the judges that Mr Memon wanted to return to the country to face corruption cases but might go back to London again for medical treatment. Therefore, he apprehended that he would not be allowed because of barrier placed on his movement.

Citing the federal interior secretary, and the NAB’s director general as respondents, the petitioner pleaded the court to order the authorities concerned to remove his name from the ECL.
