LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has said that no one should be arrested without evidence, especially in heinous crimes, as it was against the principles of justice to arrest only on basis of doubt.

The promotion of deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to the rank of superintendents of police (SPs) would be conducted within next one and half week, he added during a meeting with police officers, recently promoted from the rank of the inspectors to DSPs, at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.

Sukhera directed the circle officers to conduct surprise visits of the police stations and seek information regarding their duties and performance from officials working under them, to give them a feeling of kind redness.

The IG further directed them to take special care of welfare of the force, as it was not possible to get results from the force without giving priority to their welfare. He said at least 74 officers were promoted in accordance with merit, on the basis of their performance and seniority.

“Now it is responsibility of the officers to work with sincerity on their duty stations. Particularly, officers should deal the cases of victimised and helpless persons on priority basis,” he added.

The IG directed the officers to conduct promotion board meetings without any delay and it was expected that promotion board meeting regarding promotion of DSPs to the rank of SPs would be conducted within next one and half week. He directed the officers, with pending promotion cases due to incomplete ACRs, to complete their ACRs and announced that next promotion board meeting would held before December 25 for timely promotion of such officers.

He added that significant changes were made into police welfare laws, adding that guzara allowance, dowry fund, scholarships and other packages have improved considerably keeping in mind the welfare of the department. “I believe that this is the best welfare package for any organisation in the world,” the IG concluded.
