KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh, has arrested the former managing director and director of the Sindh Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) for making illegal appointments of more than 1,100 persons, it is learnt.
According to sources, the NAB has been investigating into the illegal appointments made by former MD Hafeezullah Abbasi, who is currently posted as Chief Economist of the Planning and Development Department, and Director Finance Yousaf Baloch for over 1,100 illegal appointments including 31 on Grades 16 & 17.
“The main felon of the whole episode is former director (Administration) Stevta, who is presently Principal Government College of Technology (GCT), Larkana and is on bail before arrest. He has appointed his relatives, brothers and sons on Grades 16 & 17 depriving the genuine candidates who had passed the National Testing Systems (NTS) in 2012”, sources disclosed.
The investigating authorities have been interrogating the STEVTA authorities and have been chasing the real culprits of the illegal appointments. The STEVTA administration has deputed a senior officer namely Akhtar Hussain Ghouri to coordinate with NAB and to provide all the relevant documents to them, the sources said.
While perusing them, the NAB team arrested former MD STEVTA Hafeezullah Abbasi from Sindh Secretariat as he was heading to his office of Chief Economics, P&D department while Director Finance Yousuf Baloch was picked up from authority’s headquarters located near Nipa Chowrangi.
The NAB team produced both the officials before the accountability court and got 14-day physical remand on Wednesday for further investigations.
The irony is that the real person behind illegal appointments is still posted as Principal of the GCT Larkana enjoying all perks and privileges.
