KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly passed Sindh Vehicles act amendment bill 2016 and Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) amendment Bill on Wednesday while the accessibility to the Information Bill has been handed over to standing committee.

On Wednesday’s proceedings senior minister and parliamentary leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Nisar Ahmed Khuhro presented STEVTA bill. Khuhro stated that there were several Boards and authorities which had been running by Board of Governors, provincial Ministers or Special Assistants. This bill would authorize the Sindh Government to appoint provincial Minster or any advisor as the chairperson of the STEVTA.

Expressing views on the amendment bill presented by the parliamentary leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Syed Sardar Ahemed said that the Sindh High court has ruled to remove special assistants from the offices, I suggest that the word ‘Special Assistant’ may be removed from the bill.

Senior Minister justified that this matter belongs to the honorable court so I would not like to comment on this matter.

” Sindh Government is considering to challenge the SHC verdict in the Apex court, it was an un-expected decision, advisors and special assistants have not only been appointed in Sindh but the federal government has appointed many advisors. It was amazing decision, according to which a Barrister is not eligible to be Advisor on Law”. Khuhro added that the Court has ruled that this function could perform as Advocate General, if it is rite; there was no need to establish Provincial Law Department.

Khuhro also presented a resolution to withdraw Transparency and rite to the information bill, which would be presented with extended contents. This bill was aimed at to provide easy access to the citizens towards information; we want to make it comprehensive. Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza referred the resolution to the standing committee for further proceedings.

Another bill “Sindh Vehicles” was also presented, PPP’s Parliamentary leader said that this bill has been introduced for the fixation of compensation to those who die in road accidents. For consideration of contents of the bill, it was also referred to concerned standing committee.
