Human causes of Global Warming

Author: Aiyza Javaid

Human beings have largely contributed to the grave menace of global warming. The accelerating global warming is increasing the sea levels, causing species die-offs, creating water shortages and causing several social and economic problems across the globe.

The first and foremost cause of global warming is the increasingly high emission of greenhouse gases in the air across the globe. This is prominently caused by excessive use of transport on the road globally, which is powered by gasoline, hence emitting greenhouse gases. A rapid expansion of industrialization is another contributor of greenhouse gases emission resulting in global warming. Greenhouse gases are hazardous as they trap heat within the atmosphere causing global temperatures to increase hence leading to global warming.

A growing transition of economies from farming-based to majorly industrial is seen to be another major cause of global warming at present. Research studies indicate that global warming has been triggered off by the Industrial Revolution of the mid 19th century in the US and Europe. Later on, global warming has been prevailing in the emerging global economies of present leading to industrialization and pollution.

Deforestation is another prime cause of global warming. Millions of trees are cut off from the forest’s land for residential and industrial purposes. Trees are a source of absorbing carbon and protect the atmosphere from its damage. The loss of the trees continues increasing the earth’s temperature leading to an increase in the melting of snow. This process accounts to adverse effects of global warming on the planet earth. Deforestation has a multiplier negative effect of emission of greenhouse gases resulting from an increase in livestock farming. As more and more trees are cleared off, extensive land is spared for rearing livestock production. However, animals on the land create waste, which produces methane. It is also a very harmful greenhouse gas, which negatively affects the environment and paves the way to global warming.

A growing trend of consumerism in the world is another eminent contributor to global warming. The products used by the consumers account for about 60 percent of greenhouse gas emissions for manufacturing them as well as to keep them operational at the fullest level. Over usage of electricity, in addition, results in global warming too. Excessive usage and manufacturing of aerosols in the world is a grave contributor to global warming because it contains several greenhouse gases including methane and carbon dioxide, which deplete the ozone layer leading to the severe impact of global warming.

The afore-mentioned explains the grave causes of global warming, which is a menace for the planet earth. The issue of global warming can be dealt with by focusing more on recycling waste and minimizing the consumption of plastic bottles. Use of public transport should be made and hybrid cars should be used on the roads. Power and electricity should be conserved at maximum and extra lights should be turned off when not in use. Adhering to these measures can help to reduce global warming and safeguard the planet earth.
