KARACHI: The Supreme Court directed the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Thursday to take across-the-board action against the security tents set up by the security guards outside the residences of high-profile people residing in DHA.

A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali and Justice Amir Hani Muslim asked the DHA to submit the compliance report at the next hearing.

Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah had written to the CJP requesting him to restrain the DHA from taking discriminatory action against security tent pitched outside his house.

At the outset, the DHA’s lawyer denied the allegation of selective action and said that the authorities had issued notices to over 150 residents, asking them to remove the security tents from outside their houses.

Earlier, the court had asked DHA to explain its policy with regard to setting up tents for security guards outside their houses.

Meanwhile, the provincial authorities informed the same bench that Dr Seemi Jamali, a grade-20 officer, was given look-after charge of executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The bench was hearing the application filed by Dr Seemi Jamali, who approached the court against the appointment of non-cadre officers on the cadre posts.

At the outset, Advocate General Sindh Zameer Hussain Ghumro informed the court that Dr Seemi had been given the charge of 21-grade post on the temporary basis, since she was in grade 20 and holds masters in public health (MPH) degree.

He said that the fresh rules concerning the JPMC administration, including appointments to the important administrative posts, were in the making.

Earlier, the court was informed that the notification regarding the appointment of Prof Dr Anisuddin Bhatti and Dr Jawed Akhtar Jamali as JPMC executive director and deputy director respectively had been withdrawn following its orders.

The applicant submitted that Dr Anisuddin Bhatti was a professor of orthopedic and Dr Jawed Akhtar Jamali was a medical officer. They both lacked the eligibility and credentials for the posts.

She further informed, that the officers having Masters in Public Health can hold the administrative posts.
