ISLAMABAD: The German Embassy arranged an annual ‘Christmas Bazaar’ here on Friday evening, which attracted a large number of diplomatic corps, United Nations officials and the local people.

As the Christmas season is about to start, the German Embassy is welcoming it with the traditional Christmas spirit, traditional German food, homemade cakes, cookies and waffles and plenty more.

In the event Germany, Belgium and other country’s stalls are serving food, coffee and other things. At Pakistani stall shawls, caps and other cultural items attracted the international community who were on diplomatic, United Nation and other international organisations on the assignments in Pakistan and participated in large numbers.

German Ambassador to Pakistan, Ina Lepel, who was welcoming the guests, seemed quite satisfied with her smiling face. She talked exclusive with Daily Times and said that so many people participated in the Bazaar. She said that still many Pakistani people who wanted to participate in the event were not able to register themselves on time and were not able to attend the event.

She said that these types of programmes bring people together. She said that in the event diplomats of various countries and local and their families also participated. They all enjoyed the atmosphere here.

“People enjoyed Food, cakes, drinks, item related to Christmas and cultural things from Germany and Pakistan” Ambassador Lepel said.

The Spokesperson of the Embassy of the United States of America Fleur Cowan, who also came to attend the Bazaar shared her views and said that was delighted by the fine German hospitability. She said that it was a pleasure to meet different Pakistanis and the diplomatic community people together.

“Actually I enjoyed a lot together with friends here” she said Waltrant Lanz from Germany, who was sailing item related to Christmas. He said that a majority of people were purchasing wreaths and other decoration pieces from her stall. She said that a majority of the international community were shopping from her stall.

Musaf Aziz stall-holder who was selling Pashmina shawls told Daily Times that his 30 shawls were sold in an hour. He said that here are Pakistanis also purchasing but a majority of the customers were foreigners. A Pakistani woman, Hina Wilson, said that she came here with her family and enjoyed food and drinks of Germany and other countries.
