ISLAMABAD: A group of transgender on Saturday presented tableau in court to raise awareness about their rights.
Tableau was arranged by a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) named Vision to support transgender in spreading awareness regarding their rights.
The main theme of the tableau – arranged on the invitation ofIslamabad Bar CouncilMemberShazia – was that the transgendercommunity formeda marginalised segment of the society and that they have always been a subject to misery, subjugation and public hatred.
The oppression made to the transgender, the amusement of their personalities by the public, the hardships they face in their public and private lives and their pitiable family lives were brought under light through the tableau.
The transgender tried to spread message of ‘transgender-friendly society’ – meaning they requested the society to recognise their special status.
Islamabad High Court Bar Association General Secretary Muhammad Waqas said that the transgender community has every right to live their lives according to their own will and way. “The way transgender are treated is miserable and highly condemnable,” he said.
