PESHAWAR: Four suicide bombers, affiliated with the banned terrorist outfit Jamaatul Ahrar, were killed as they tried to enter the Frontier Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Ghalanai, Mohmand Agency on Saturday.
Two FC personnel embraced martyrdom while another eight officials were injured in the gun battle. According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, four terrorists, wearing suicide vests attempted to enter the FC Camp in Ghalanai around 0600hours. However, the FC personnel averted the attempt by killing two of them. The other two terrorists blew themselves up after soldiers surrounded them. Seeking anonymity, an official told Daily Times, “The attackers were wearing FC uniform as they attempted to reach the mosque but the on-duty security personnel successfully engaged them and killed them before they could reach the mosque. They would have caused havoc had they entered the mosque.” Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif praised the security forces for successfully defeating the terrorists. “Vigilant and prompt response of the security forces saved many precious lives,” he was quoted as saying. Banned terrorist outfit Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement. Meanwhile, 11 Corps Commander Lieutenant General Hidayatur Rahman visited the Ghalanai FC camp and inspected the scene. He praised the security forces for their bravery and thanked them for foiling the terrorist attack that could have caused severe casualties to young recruits. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and the provincial government also condemned the attack.
