LONDON: England’s Football Association (FA) on Sunday began investigations on the allegations of sexual abuse in youth football after several formers players came forward to say that they were molested by youth coaches.

For assistance with the internal review of the allegations, the FA appointed the independent leading counsel Kate Gallafent, who is a child protection expert.

The FA claimed that it would review the allegations and find out what information the FA was aware of at the relevant times, what the clubs were aware of, and what action was or should have been taken. Gallafent will then make recommendations to ensure these situations can never be repeated.

Several former footballers spoken out about being abused after former Crewe Alexandra player Andy Woodward spoke out about his abuse at the hands of convicted child abuser Barry Bennell in the 1980s.

Britain’s Professional Footballers’ Association Chief Executive Gordon Taylor said that almost 20 players had made similar allegations and up to seven clubs are concerned.
