KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has directed the director general NADRA to submit a complete list of all the cases sent to special branch of police or other agencies for verification of documents for issuance of CNICs.
A division bench headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar was hearing a petition filed by Erum Jabeen, who approached the court against the Nadra for not issuing her CNIC.
The court asked the DG to turn up and explain the rationale behind sending these cases for verification and subsequent action taken by Nadra to follow up verification process.
At the outset, NADRA’s counsel stated that the CNIC’s of the parents of the petitioner were not blocked. However, her case had been sent to special branch of police for verification as her documents could not be verified. She will be issued the identity card after verification, he added.
The judges observed that after sending the petitioner’s case to the special branch, no further action was taken to expedite the verification of her documents. “We fail to understand that if the CNIC’s of her parents were not blocked and there was no other objection or suspicion, why was her case sent for verification,” they added.
