‘Selective accountability’ by ‘selected government’ not acceptable: Bilawal

Author: News Desk

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has condemned the arrest of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, calling it a part of witch-hunt by the ‘selected government against the elected representatives’.

In a statement issued here, the PPP chairman said the government wants to hide its utter failures by detaining and arresting political opponents but the protests against its continuous attacks on the national economy will not end. “Selective accountability by the selected government will never be accepted despite the use of illegal and unconstitutional tools against the joint opposition,” he said, and demanded release of former prime minister Abbasi.

It is worth mentioning here that former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday from the outskirts of Lahore over his alleged involvement in the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) scandal. NAB escorted the PML-N leader to its local Lahore office.

The former prime minister was due to appear in the accountability court at 10am on Thursday. However, he recused himself from appearing on the pretext that he was busy to appear in the court.
