KARACHI: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Quetta Gladiators has signed all-rounder Abdul Razzaq as the assistant/bowling coach ahead of the second edition of league.

Razzaq will replace Ian Pont, who was the assistant coach in first edition as Gladiators played the final against Islamabad United.

The 36-year-old Abdul Razzaq has represented Pakistan in 46 Tests, 265 ODIs and 32 T20s, scoring 7,419 runs and taking 389 wickets in international career across all formats.

Razzaq said that he is excited to take next step in his career with Gladiators. “I’m really excited to join Quetta Gladiators as assistant/bowling coach because this will be the start of a new phase in my life and what better team to start with,” Razzaq said. “There comes a time when you got to step into coaching and management and it’s the reality we must face. Pakistan has given so much to me and now it’s time to give it back.”

Meanwhile, Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar has hoped that Razzaq’s presence in management would improve the team with his experience as one of the best finishers of his generation.

“Razzaq was a true match-winner of his generation and delivered on numerous occasions both with the bat and ball so he will definitely help the team improve all-round play,”g Nadeem said.

“We want to make Gladiators the best team and Razzaq is the latest edition in our quest of PSL title. I would also like to thank Ian Pont for his services and hope he does well in his life ahead,” he added.
