ISLAMABAD: There is no legal hindrance for General (r) Raheel Sharif to become part of the caretaker setup during the upcoming general election, said National Democratic Foundation (NDF) Chairman Kanwar Dilshad on Wednesday.
The former Election Commission of Pakistan secretary maintained that Raheel Sharif could also give his technical and analytical views on defence matters by refraining himself from political activities, like General (r) Mirza Aslam Baig did after his retirement. He added that caretaker setup is a purely neutral and impartial arrangement for transitional phase in democratic process. The constitution is completely silent on it, however, only the service rules prevent not to indulge in pure political activities for a period of two years. He said further that such an arrangement would further strengthen democracy by ensuring trust of all stakeholders who have highest regards towards the professional, impartial and honest personality of Raheel Sharif.
