LAHORE: The Opposition in Punjab Assembly opposing the recent increase in prices of petrol and diesel announced by the federal government has filed a resolution in assembly secretariat on Thursday.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced a day ago an increase of two rupees in the prices of petrol and high speed diesel on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The resolution against the new petrol and diesel prices was submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member and Opposition Leader in the House Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed in the Notice Branch of the Punjab Assembly secretariat on Thursday.

In the resolution, the opposition leader demanded the federal government of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) to withdraw the increase in prices of petrol and high speed diesel as such decisions would bring a flood of inflation in the province. He further stated in the resolution that such increase of prices of petrol and diesel would not only enhance price hike but also directly affect the masses, and hence should be reversed immediately.

Separately, a resolution was filed seeking justice for the deprived community of “Khawaja Sara” (transgender or eunuch) of the country, an opposition member Ahsan Riaz Fatiyana filed in assembly secretariat on the same day. In the resolution, he has demanded the federal government to make some legislation in favour of eunuchs to provide them all religious rights they deserve like other Muslims.

He urged the federal government through his resolution that the eunuchs should be allowed to participate in all Islamic religious duties like Hajj, Umrah and others freely by maintaining laws in this regard. Both the movers are expecting to be entertained their resolution during the continuing session of the Punjab Assembly.
