Ali Rehman Khan’s anti-hero character in ‘Khaas’ has the critics raving

Author: Aysha Ahmed

It is not news that actor Ali Rehman Khan is deemed as the heartthrob of Pakistan’s television industry.

His looks have already cast such a spell on us, that we are driven to watch every film or drama that he stars in no matter what role he plays.

His current project ‘Khaas’ is getting some serious appreciation, especially because of his acting proficiency.

‘Khaas’ is a story of a newly married couple facing problems in their relationship; but these problems are not the minute, regular kind. They are toxic and somewhat abusive, to say the least. Ali Rehman Khan plays the role of Ammar, who is a very arrogant and self-obsessed man, while Sanam Baloch plays the role of his down-to-earth and confident partner, Saba. Although Ammar marries Saba after falling in love with her at first sight, his narcissistic personality reveals itself soon and makes him constantly criticise her, while feeling happy about it.

We are accustomed to seeing Ali Rehman Khan play sweet, charming and romantic characters in his TV shows and movies, where we have repeatedly fallen in love with him. However, his avatar as Ammar in ‘Khaas’ is completely different altogether. The role is negative and obnoxious in nature, where he goes from happy to angry within a matter of seconds, but that transition from one emotion to another has been carried out effortlessly by him, showing off his versatility as an actor. Ammar is meant to be a man with a variety of mental complexities that affect his behavior and the relationships he is in. Playing the difficult and complex character of Ammar with such perfection is proof that he deserves all the appreciation he is getting.

Another exceptional reason why he is getting all the spotlight in the drama is the way he brings out the best in rest of the characters in the drama, especially his co-star Sanam Baloch. The couple’s interaction with each other, including their marital issues, look quite realistic with the kind of subtle verbal abuse being displayed in their relationship. Many couples can immediately relate to the situation at hand, since the storyline is based on issues prevalent in the society currently.

Ali Rehman Khan has been at the forefront of the TV industry, with one project after another getting aired lately. Known for his charming persona, Khan had his on-screen debut with ‘Slackistan’.

Ali Rehman Khan has been raised in Islamabad and is a graduate from the London School of Economics, before he became interested in the theatre and eventually got into acting. Ali Rehman Khan has also been on a roll lately with the promotion of his upcoming film ‘Heer Maan Ja’, in which he’s playing a lead role with Hareem Farooq, his co-actor from ‘Parchi’.

All in all, Ali Rehman Khan is doing a great job in ‘Khaas’ and we hope we get to see more of him in the future.
