KARACHI: Office bearers of Association of Physically Handicapped Adults (APHA) have demanded to raise the special quota of disabled persons and to provide them job opportunities in the public sectors.
They also expressed their concerns for lack of the implementation of a bill passed by the provincial Sindh Assembly.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Friday, APHA president Shareef-Al-Manzr, SM Nishat, Shazia Waris and others said that on World Disable Day that will be observed today (Saturday), APHA will be holding an awareness walk for the special children at Safari Park, on University road .
They demanded the business community, General Public and the media community to participate in the walk to highlight the problem faced by physically disabled persons.
They said that many of disables are still unemployed despite the passage of Sindh Differently-abled Persons (Employment, Rehabilitation and Welfare) Bill, 2014.
“We were promised to be given 2 percent of the employment quota by the government but itit has not been implemented” Said Shareef-Al-Muzafar.
The office bearers added that they have been serving for the last 40 years for the disables and believe that their abilities are equal to a common people. They said that there are hardly any ramps or railings for disables in the public places.
They demanded that disables should be provided equal opportunities in every aspects of life by their education so that they can achieve a respectable place in the society.
