ISLAMABAD: The French Embassy and Serena Hotels organised a fundraiser with the support of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to promote sports for women.

The event also featured a performance by French artists Sherazade et L’Avion Rose to further strengthen the cultural exchange between Pakistan and France.

PAF has agreed to provide training to young women for squash and skiing. This initiative will provide talented female athletes the opportunity for professional training and give them access to national and international platforms.

Serena Hotels has over the years been diligently promoting sports diplomacy as sports is a powerful tool for driving change in societies and an effective platform for bringing forward Sustainable Development Goals.

Serena Hotels CEO Aziz Bolani said, “Serena Hotels has always taken the lead in supporting and promoting sports in all age groups. The time has come that we encourage and train talented women who have the potential to become champions in various sports nationally and internationally.”

French Ambassador Martine Dorance said that education was one of the key components of development but sports should also occupy a central place in our societies.

Recently, Serena Hotels and United Nations Women commemorated the UN International Day of Sports for Development and Peace by hosting a match to show how football was a powerful vehicle for social inclusion, gender equality and youth empowerment.
