90% students fail in test for MPhil, PhD admissions

PESHAWAR: Only ten per cent student qualified National Testing Service (NTS) test for M-Phil and PhD admission in Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) however, students have reservations over test and blamed that it was just for collecting funds from the poor students.

AWKU Mardan had announced NTS test for getting admission in M-Phil and PhD admission 2017-18 session in last week of November, however, around 3,500 students appeared in test held at AWKUM Mardan in which 90 per cent students were declared failed.

As per the record of various departments limited number of the student secures to get admission in the Islamic Study department all students failed the test and alleged the University for out of course paper.

A female student and topper of the Islamic study from International Islamic University Islamabad while talking to Daily Times alleged the University for diverting the rules and regulation of Higher Education Commission in the research.

Similarly, around 600 students applied for M-Phil and PhD at University College of Science Shanker only 40 students passed the test. Most of the students at the time of paper reportedly protested the paper content. The college teaches the subject of Computer Science, Physics, Biology Chemistry and part of the AWKM University.

Senior professor of the AWKUM told this scribe on the request of anonymity that the university has very limited teaching faculty to supervised large number of students for M-Phil or PhD and research work at the university at the verge of collapse.

He said university failed to adjust 200 students for research purpose out of 50 departments but hired more than 200 staffs teaching and none teaching faculty.

The result of the NTS and the university record shows that in some of the subjects and department few students succeeded to take admission. The university had also announced M-Phil admission in Islamic Studies but none of the student passed the NTS to get admission and university will have no student this year to undertake research work in the Islamic studies, bio sciences, chemistry and other subjects.

On the request of anonymity students of the Political science, Physics and Islamic studies informs Daily Times that almost every student has come to know that seats at different departments were announced to influx the students for admission in research and then held them back through NTS. The students said the aim of the move was to collect money from the poor student’s pocket and run the affair of the university.

Moreover, the papers for the students of physics and Islamic study were almost identical which triggered anger and disappointments among the students against the NTS authority and demanded the government to abolish the NTS for the large interest of the poor students and let the students to research at the universities.

Students claimed that foundation of their study was largely based on the concept of GAT general and GRE but the paper NTS was almost prepared for recruitment purpose.

AWKU Mardan Spokes Person Abid Khan said that university has conducted test according to Higher Education Commission policy. He said that to failed test by students was not fault of university.
