ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that the government is actively pursuing to generate cheap electricity and enhance the water storage capacity in the country.
Addressing the business community on Monday, he hoped that the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project would be initiated next year.
He said 1bn dollars had been spent on the land acquisition of Diamer-Bhasha Dam; while it will be able to store over six million acre feet of water, and generate affordable electricity of 4500 MWs.
The Minister said, the government is also actively working on small dams like Kurram-Tungi and Munda dams to overcome energy shortage and to provide sufficient water for drinking and irrigation purposes.
He said constructional phase of small dams in Balochistan has already been initiated and is in progress, and the government is also working towards generating cheap electricity through alternative renewable sources.
Ahsan Iqbal further added that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a great success story of PML-N.
