Pakistan Kisaan Ittehad, the representative body of farmers, took back its call of protest which was going to be launched on 1st of July in the whole Province because of the assurance given to them by Governor Punjab Ch. Muhammad Sarwar. As per the details, Central Chairman of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Chaudhry Anwar along with other representatives and members of Kissan Ittehad held a detailed meeting with Governor Punjab Ch. Mohammad Sarwar on Thursday and informed him about the problems the farmers are facing these days.

The farmers were assured by Governor Punjab that their issues would be addressed timely and therefore they decided to take back the call of protest that was supposed to be launched in the first week of July.

Ch Sarwar said on the occasion that both the Federal and Provincial Governments are working jointly to work out the problems of farmers on priority basis; the payment of dues pending from Sugar Mills and provision of the pesticides. “Emergency steps will be taken to ensure the timely solution of these problems and the maximum relief will be provided to farmers soon”, assured Sarwar. He further added that the role of farmers in uplifting the economy of the country cannot be ruled out. He was of the view that the government will provide subsidy to farmers on electricity, pesticides and other things in their relief package. Whenever the farmers take to the street to protest by staging sit-ins and demonstrations, the life of a common man and commuter becomes miserable because of road blockage and traffic lock-jam.

Moreover, a five-member delegation of Czech-Pakistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group led by Mr. Daniel Pawlas also called on Governor Punjab. The representatives of Foreign, Defense and Parliamentary Affairs were also present in the meeting. Ch Sarwar paid his gratitude to the delegation for providing scholarships to Pakistani students and their assurance of full co-operation in the provision of clean drinking water to whole Punjab. He added that both these countries should send parliamentary delegations to each other’s countries to boost legislative contacts and people to people exchanges. These friendship exchanges help reinvigorating parliamentary and democratic attitudes among people.

He also said that Pakistan has a huge potential for investment. Pakistan is also working on its tourist industry to attract foreign tourists as Pakistan has a huge potential for tourism as well. The delegation of parliamentarians also appreciated Governor Punjab Ch. Mohammad Sarwar’s initiative of the provision of clean drinking water to the people of Punjab and assured him of Czech Republic’s full co-operation with the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority.

Later, talking to a group of reporters in Governor House, Sarwar said that the economic crisis is here due to the imbalance and difference in the export and import. “Almost every item we use is imported and there is a need to place a ban on the usage of imported items as it will help a lot to overcome the dollar crisis,” said Governor Punjab.
