Misbah arrives in Australia for Test series

Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq arrived in Australia on Monday ahead of the three-Test series against the Steven Smith-led Kangaroos.

The 42-year-old had to leave New Zealand in between the two-Test series, concluded last week, to attend the funeral of his father-in-law.

Misbah, who is Pakistan’s most successful longest form captain with 24 wins in 50 matches, will captain for the first time in Australia. The tour of Australia promises to test the visiting side’s skills. The last time Pakistan won a Test in Australia was way back in 1995 under Wasim Akram.

Pakistan has won only four Tests in Australia out of 32, losing 21.

Though, Misbah is statistically the most successful captain to have led Pakistan, his effectiveness as a Test skipper will be gauged on how he lead his troops on the Australian soil.

Pakistan were recently thrashed 2-0 by Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the aforementioned two-Test match series after the absorbing dead rubber against the West Indies in Sharjah that saw the visitors register a comprehensive victory.
