Sir: The word pollution was derived from the Latin word pollution which means to make dirty. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes adverse change. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy such as noise heat or light.
Environment pollution is a serious problem of industrialised societies. Environmental pollution is defined as the unfavourable alteration of our surroundings. The industrial development and the green revolution have adversely affected the environment. People have converted the life supporting system of the entire living world into their own resources and have vastly disturbed the natural ecological balance. It is by-product of man’s activities, which directly or indirectly is responsible for the changes in the environment. Industrialisation has led to urbanisation. The migration of rural population to cities has created an unhealthy environment. Towns and cities are full of smoke, fumes, dirt, dust, rubbish, gases, foul and smell. Public education and awareness of the relationship between climate change and human health are keys to deal with these problems more effectively.
