Govt’s ‘experimental’ educational policies irk teachers

LAHORE: School teachers have strongly condemned Punjab Examination Commission’s (PEC) ‘experimental policies’ that has created hurdles for the instructors.

The PEC and Department of Staff Development (DSD) have decided to hold additional tests, besides the decided December examinations – burdening the students as well as the teachers.

Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) Secretary General Rana Liaqat Ali said that the education sector of the province is already on the brink of destruction and the new policies are putting more weight on the already burdened students.

Liaqat said that DSD’s mock tests costs over Rs 30 million for at least 2.2 million students – with the transportation expense being endured separately by the government.

He further said that some teachers are busy in the essay writing and speech competitions while some have been preoccupied in the verification process of the newly-hired teachers’documents.

“All these things are badly affecting the teachers’ performances. Therefore the PEC, DSD and other department should think twice before further stressing the already busy teachers,” he said.

The teachers will not be able to complete the said curriculum and then the departments concerned will criticise the instructors’ performance, he said and added that the loss is not only for the teachers but for the students as well.
