Sindh govt decides to restructure 6 major roads of Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Government in a major move has decided to restructure six major roads of Karachi, which involves an enormous budget of Rs4bn.

CM Sindh, Murad Ali Shah will be inaugurating the project on Dec10, Project Director, Sindh Government, Niaz Soomro informed Daily Times.

It’s a part of Karachi Mega Infrastructure Development Projects of Rs 10bn, Niaz added.

Its happening for the first time in Karachi that sideways, green patches and footpaths are being constructed through Main Shahrah-e-Faisal, where offices of armed forces and Faisal Cantonment Board are situated, while work on widening of road will also be carried out.

“The work of widening of road is being carried out by a thorough process and on recommendations of Core Commander Karachi, Director General Military Lands and General Headquarter both from Rawalpindi and with the signature of former COAS, General Raheel Sharif,” said Niaz Soomro.

Shahrah-e-Faisal would be extended by 40 to 50 feet on both sides and Natha Khan Goth Flyover would be made traffic signal free, he added.

A U-turn would also be built near Shah Faisal Police Station towards COD Land, which would pass under the Natha Khan Fly over for the traffic traveling to Drigh Road and Shah Faisal Colony.

This U-Turn project will cost Rs 110m and COD boundary wall will cost Rs 13.5m, he said.

In addition, University Road will be built in three phase and the first phase will cost Rs 770m, second phase from NED Engineering University to Sufoora Chowk will cost Rs 780m and third phase starting from Mosamiyat will cost Rs 200m.

The reconstruction of Tariq Road from Shaheed-e-Millat to Shahrah-e-Quaideen would cost Rs 550m, said the Project Director.

Hub River Road (remaining portion) would cost Rs 500m, funds for it have been allocated in the budget 2016-17.

The reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads from Surjani Town to Madinatul Hikmat and to Mangopir Road will cost Rs750m while an under pass at Regent Plaza, on Shahrah-e-Faisal will also be constructed at the cost of Rs 525m.

Besides, Baloch Colony Flyover would be redesigned with a cost of Rs 120m, while Shah Faisal Colony Flyover will also be reconstructed at a cost of Rs 505m for smooth traffic flow towards Airport and other locations.

Airport Road to Malir, Qaidabad, Bin Qasim, Razakabad, Safoora Chowrangi to Karachi University, Sohrab Goth, Sachal roads are damaged and due to dilapidated broken roads since the last many years, prolonged traffic jams is a routine matter in these areas.
