PML-N issues white paper on budget

Author: Staff Report

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Hina Pervez Butt on Wednesday issued a white paper about the budget presented by the Punjab government.

“The present government is no less than a calamity for the people of Pakistan,” she said.

According to the document, new taxes worth Rs 86 billion have been imposed on people in the Punjab budget.

“More than 0.5 million people have become unemployed because of the flawed policies of government in Punjab. During the current government’s tenure, 153,000 crimes have occurred so far. More than 1,494 people have been murdered. The cases of child abuse have risen to 500 in Punjab. This shows the PTI’s dismal performance in maintaining law and order. The government has also decreased health budget by Rs 5 billion.”

“Two provincial ministers have been arrested by NAB. There has been a 10 percent hike in fare prices of metro buses. The innocent victims of CTD still await justice. The death of six children in Sahiwal hospital exposes the government’s performance in health sector. The chief minister and his 40 spokesmen are in fact Ali Baba and 40 chor. More than 102 people have attempted suicides because of poverty and inflation. The transfer of secretaries and other officials shows political interference in the institutions.”

The document stated that despite transfers three IGs, the law and order situation in the province had worsened.

“More than 3,000 proclaimed offenders belong to Gujranwala alone. More than 2,000 proclaimed offenders belong to Faisalabad. More than 53 cases of gang rape and 4,000 cases of kidnapping have been registered by police. The attacks on polio workers is the blatant failure of police. The terrorist attack on Data Darbar is a shocking incident. During the current year, 503 cases of child abuse have been registered with police. Rs 16 billion have been spent on the Safe City Project. However, crimes are increasing.””The facility of PCR test for the diagnosis of Hepatitis B and C in the entire province has been abolished. More than 400 HIV positive patients have appeared in Punjab. The government has decreased the budget for nine colleges in Lahore. The austerity drive in Punjab is nothing, but an eyewash to deceive people. Funds for decoration in fiscal year 2019-20 have been increased by Rs 50 million. The government has provided discretionary funds to the chief minister,” the document read.
