ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has replaced Karachi corps commander Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar with Lieutenant General Shahid Baig Mirza.

According to a spokesman for the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Shahid Baig Mirza has been serving as the military secretary at the General Headquarters (GHQ)

He is expected to assume his new responsibilities as the commander of Karachi corps soon. On the other hand, Chief of Logistic Staff at the GHQ Lt Gen Ghayur Mehmood has now been made the new military secretary. Military sources said that Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar will be given a new assignment very soon, and added that he is a strong candidate for the post of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general (DG). They said that his name is also under consideration for the post of chief of general staff at the GHQ.

This important position fell vacant after General Zubair Mehmood Hayat was made the chairman joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC).

More transfers and postings are expected in the next few days, as slots of inspector general (training and evolution) and IG (arms) are still vacant.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa was the IG (training and evolution) before his promotion and appointment as the army chief.
