MIRPUR KHAS: A rally was taken out to spread the importance of exercising one’s voting rights to mark the “National Voters” Day’ on Wednesday. The rally, led by Election Commissioner, Amir Ashfaque Qureshi, started from Post Office Chock and ended at Press Club Mirpurkhas. The significance of this day is to encourage youngsters, who have reached the age of 18, of the country to participate in the electoral process, by enrolling or registering themselves in the electoral rolls and to exercise their franchise. Election Commissioner Amir Ashfaque Qureshi said that “National Voters Day” is mark of the power of every individual vote. “Voters’ participation in the democratic and electoral processes is vital for successful running of any democracy and the basis of wholesome democratic elections,” he said. He reiterated that voter is the bedrock of the institution of democracy, and all youth, who have reached the age 18, should register themselves to qualify for the right to cast a vote and participate in the electoral role. Further, he said that “National Voters’ Day” aims to educate and make the voters aware of their rights and to increase the voter turnout during the elections.
