Syed Wajihuddin forms Aam Log Ittehad party

LAHORE: Once considered a key figure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Syed Wajihuddin has announced to form a separate political party after differences with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Wednesday, the former Supreme Court judge said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had left ideological workers alone and people belonging to different parties such as the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) had captured it badly.

Wajihuddin, who has a keen eye on the judicial issues, claimed that he had difference of opinion with the PTI over formation of a judicial commission on the Panama leaks.

Commenting over the London flats of the Sharif family, he said burden of proof was on the party who had owned the ownership of the property.

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be disqualified under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution if he failed to prove money trail of London flats in the apex court.

To a question, he said, “Those who had said that people belonging to the Ahmediyya community ‘deserved to be killed’ should be snubbed as the constitution gives full religious freedom to every person living in Pakistan.”

Announcing the party and its structure, he said technocrats would run the party and they would not be answerable to any party office bearer. He claimed that the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad and the Khaksar Tehreek were allies of his party.

Wajihuddin said he would serve the party as an interim chairman until intra-party elections, which would be next before next general elections.

During the press conference, Pakistan Kisan Ittehad representative Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar, some of the technocrats and former army officers, including Brigadier (r) Waseem Zafar, were also present.
