ISLAMABAD: The government has approved Aizaz Chaudhry’s appointment as ambassador to the US.
Aizaz will take up the position once Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani’s tenure is completed. Aizaz is currently serving as the foreign secretary. A member of the foreign service with 35 years of bilateral and multilateral experience, he has also served as the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.
In addition, Aizaz also served as the additional foreign secretary for the UN and disarmament affairs as well as the director general for relations with South Asian countries. In this capacity he has been closely associated with the peace process with India. Furthermore, he has also served as the ambassador to the Netherlands.
Aizaz’s list of credentials also include deputy permanent representative to the UN in New York, as chef de cabinet to the secretary general of the Economic Cooperation Organisation in Tehran as well as working in the Pakistani embassies in Washington, Doha and Cairo. He has notably also published a book “Pakistan Mirrored to Dutch Eyes”.
