Sir: While coming out of a small central Punjab city, Renala Khurd, I began studying in a metropolitan, Lahore, with dreams to avail myself of every opportunity to be more mature and practical person.
I got this opportunity about three months ago in form of a well-organized and thematically sumptuous 7th Lahore Literary Festival. Pakistani writers and critics alongwith reputed foreign scholars, came to this guided festival in about 80 discussions to explore written and spoken world. Discussions on populism, argumentation on fast dwindling water resources, conference on issue of Syria and colloquy on Kashmir issues showed immediate concerns of literary figures. 7th LLF also paid classy tributes to Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Asma Jahangir and Amir Hamza Shinwari.
I suggest three points. Firstly, government should support such festivals that are necessary for the development of critical education. Secondly, universities must appreciate their students to come and explore what actually the world this is. Last but not the least, organizers of LLF should pay heed to quantity of Urdu programmes. Of course, it is easier said than done. But I am sure concerned authorities will take these suggestions as a will of students.
