Young Pakistani activist Mishal Shah selected as Global Changemaker

Author: Staff Report

Young Pakistani activist Mishal Shah has received the prestigious title of Global Changemaker for her solution addressing the issue of domestic worker rights in Pakistan. The 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development emphasises young people as “critical agents of change” and Mishal Shah is a testament to that. She is a BBA graduate from the National University of Sciences & Technology. She has been involved in multiple community service projects. Belonging from a humble background, she could not grab many opportunities that came her way because of the societal restraints she faced. She worked with United Nations Women and conducted Women Leadership Summit to educate young girls that they can do anything and break the stereotypical barriers imposed on them. She believes in equal rights for women and men, both. Thus, she wants to work for the development and rights of female domestic workers in Pakistan by giving them education and proper training. She wants the unheard to be heard.

Shah is among 60 young people who received the title of Global Changemaker this year. This year’s cohort, all aged between 18 and 23, were selected through a rigorous selection process and represent 42 countries including Togo, Pakistan, Bhutan, South Sudan, Belarus, Lesotho, and Tunisia.

They will join the Global Changemakers network comprised of over 1,000 young leaders from across the world whose work, to date, has impacted over four million people.

The change makers will be flown to Switzerland by the Mercator Foundation to attend the weeklong Global Youth Summit taking place in Aarau, Switzerland from July 13-19, 2019.
