Governor asks bureaucrats to focus on people’ welfare

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Wednesday said that bureaucracy should work according to the laws prescribed in the constitution.

He was addressing a ceremony held to distribute certificates to 110 senior civil servants after they attended various courses at the National Institute of Public Policy.

“We have never tolerated political interference in the functioning of bureaucracy. Bureaucrats should equip themselves with the latest technology and all relevant skills to cope with the rapidly changing world. Bureaucrats should work in collaboration with the government but their purpose should be to facilitate people in the execution of administration. They should work for the people instead of the government. The steps being taken by the present government have put our country on the right track. It will lead to political stability and economic prosperity. Prime Minister Imran Khan is ensuring transparency and meritocracy in the country,” he said.

Sarwar said that the purpose of bureaucracy was to run the state machinery. “You should fulfill your duty with full devotion, dedication and patriotic zeal. You should act as medium between policy state and the people. Therefore, vigilance at your end is of utmost importance. I urge all our bureaucrats to equip themselves with modern technology to dispense with their duties efficiently. By the grace of Almighty Allah, our country is on the right track and we all have to pull it out of the current crisis and ensure good governance. I believe that our civil bureaucracy is determined to play their part to make this country great and prosper,” he said.
