No water for Faqeer Colony

KARACHI: Residents of Faqeer Colony have been facing acute water shortage as there has been no supply to the area for the last ten years.

“We have been spending half of our income on water,” residents of the area complained.

Faqeer colony, located near Orangi town and Momin Abad, with a population of nearly 45 thousand, have not received supply of water from the lines for the last ten years.

Many people have complained that they had to spend a huge amount from their monthly budget to buy water. “We are purchasing water from tankers amounting to Rs 3,000 to Rs 12,000, per month”, Rasool Bux said.

Another resident Shareef Baloch, who claimed to be a Jiyala of Pakistan Peoples Party, told Daily Times that majority of locals have been voting for his party for last forty years, it was unfortunate that PPP’s government through the last eight years of its rule in different phases, did not do anything to regulate the supply of water to the area.

Majority of the residents in the area are daily wagers and are suffering huge financial and civic issues due to water shortage, he added.

Rashid Raees Baloch, the local PPP leader in Faqeer Colony told Daily Times that there is dire need of supporting pumps at supply stations and setting new pipelines to supply water in the area.

The residents had approached the government and the Sindh Chief Minister in 2014 on this issue and the CM had sent the matter to Annual Development Program (ADP), Scheme 2016, but ADP has declined their terming it is short of, he added and urged the Sindh Government should take effective measures to resolve their issue urgently.
